Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body. Therefore, just as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything.
The main area of responsibility for any wife is to support and be submissive to her husband. If the Lord calls a man into the ministry, He calls the whole man, and that includes the man’s wife and his family.
1 Timothy 3:4
This is a faithful saying: If a man desires the position of a bishop, he desires a good work. A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, temperate, sober-minded, of good behavior hospitable, able to teach; not given to wine, not violent, not greedy for money, but gentle, not quarrelsome, not covetous; one who rules his own house well, having his children in submission with all reverence
The above are the qualities of a good Pastor:
He must:
- Be blameless
- Be one who rules his own house well,
- Be one who have his children in submission with all reverence.
- Be the husband of one wife
- Be temperate ( abe ngozikhuzayo)
- Be sober-minded ( oqondileyo)
- Be of good behaviour ( oziphatha ngokufaneleyo )
- Be able to teach ( onesu lokufundisa )
- Be hospitable ( ongenisa izihambi )
“one who rules his own house well, having his children in submission with all reverence.” “Rules well” is an idiom for being a biblical husband with a submissive wife and children that love and respect him. The pastor who is the head of his home will be more successful as a leader in the church, and of course this means that his wife is his helper in the ministry of the home as well as the church. The ministry is a partnership in all areas of life and not just in the home life.
