THE SECOND COMING OF JESUS CHRIST ON EARTH

Written by:

The Second Coming of Christ will be a global event. It will be a glorious event that has never been seen before. The return of Jesus Christ to the earth is the culmination of what Jesus Christ did for us through his death on the cross.

It is important to remember that the Second Coming of Jesus Christ does not mean the end of everything. The Second Coming of Jesus Christ marks a transition from the life we were living before we accepted Jesus  Christ and who we can be if we choose Jesus Christ as our Savior.

We know there will be a Second Coming of Christ . It was told to us in the Bible The Bible prophecied about  His first coming.  He came to the earth as a baby, lived a sinless life, ministered to those around Him, and died for the penalty of sins so we could have a chance to be redeemed.

When His earthly ministry was finished, He had to depart from His disciples . Jesus Christ was carried up into heaven.

Luke 24:50-53

And He led them out as far as Bethany, and He lifted up His hands and blessed them. Now it came to pass, while He blessed them, that He was parted from them and carried up into heaven. And they worshiped Him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy, and were continually in the temple praising and blessing God. Amen.

Acts 1:9-11

Now when He had spoken these things, while they watched, He was taken up, and a cloud received Him out of their sight. And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as He went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel, who also said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven.”

Jesus is coming again. He said it Himself.

John 14:1-3

“Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I  go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.

” That where I am, there you may be also.”

These are the words that give hope that there is Jesus Christ our Saviour. There is salvation. We are strengthened. We have hope that after living on this earth and in the midst of all catastrophic  events every moment,Jesus Christ will bring peace on this earth. We, The Church,, will live with Jesus Christ forever on  this earth and later on the new earth.

Revelation 21:1

Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea.

Christ’s return will be a truly global event. While the world has experienced events that affect every part of the globe, the Second  Coming of Jesus Christ will be an event the entire world population will experience together. His Second Coming will be literal, global, and glorious. A joyous occasion as Jesus comes back for us. When Jesus Christ returns it will be the end of sin.. As described in the book of Titus, Jesus Christ’s return is “the blessed hope…”

Titus 2:12-13

teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ,

The word blessed can mean “happy” or “beneficial”; our hope is “blessed” in that Jesus’ return will be an amazing, joyful experience for the believer in Christ. We will be blessed beyond measure when we see Christ. The trials of this life will be over, and we will see that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us when Jesus Christ returns to the earth again.

Isaah 53:4-5

Surely He has borne our griefs And carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken, Smitten by God, and afflicted. But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.

Romans 8:18

For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.

The word hope is the glad assurance that  Jesus is our hope, and no one can take that hope away from us. Hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us .We live with the love of God in our heart. We are blessed.

Romans 5:5

Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

The “blessed hope,” then, is the joyful assurance that God will extend His benefits to us and that Jesus Christ will return. We are waiting for this event now. Jesus said He would return

John 14:3

And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.

the angels said Jesus Christ would return

Acts 1:11

who also said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven.”

Jesus can return at any time for His Church which is on earth, henceforth. The Church of Jesus Christ includes all believers who believe in Jesus Christ from the day of Pentecost in Acts 2 until Jesus Christ returns during  the Second Coming. There is an event of the return of Jesus Christ called ” The Rapture”.The return of Jesus Christ during the Rapture is not the Second Coming because Jesus Christ will not come directly to the earth. He will end up in the air and wait for His Church there. The return of Jesus Christ during  the Rapture will be announced by the voice of the archangel and the sounding of God’s trumpet. The bodies of those who died will be resurrected to be united with their souls, then the bodies of those believers who are still alive on earth will be changed into a body similar to the body of the Lord Jesus Christ rising from the dead. Believers raised from the dead and believers alive at the return of Christ during  the Rapture will meet the Lord in the air and then be taken to heaven.

1 Thessalonians 4:13–18

But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus. For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep. For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. Therefore comfort one another with these words.

The Rapture will happen in the twinkling of an eye.The rapture is when Jesus Christ returns to remove the church (all believers in Christ) from the earth. The rapture is also described in

 1 Corinthians 15:50-54

Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; nor does corruption inherit incorruption. Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed— in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: “Death is swallowed up in victory.”

Believers who have died will have their bodies resurrected and, along with believers who are still living, will meet the Lord in the air. This will all occur in a moment, in a twinkling of an eye.
The second coming is when Jesus returns to defeat the Antichrist, destroy evil, and establish His millennial kingdom. The second coming is described in

Revelation 19:11-16.

Now I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse. And He who sat on him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war. His eyes were like a flame of fire, and on His head were many crowns. He had a name written that no one knew except Himself. He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God. And the armies in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, followed Him on white horses. Now out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should strike the nations. And He Himself will rule them with a rod of iron. He Himself treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS

1) At the rapture, believers meet the Lord in the air

1 Thessalonians 4:17

Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord.At the second coming, believers return with the Lord to the earth

At the second coming, believers return with the Lord to the earth

Revelation 19:14

And the armies in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, followed Him on white horses.

Matthew 25:31-46

“When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory. All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats. And He will set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left. Then the King will say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.’ “Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink? When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You? Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’ And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’ “Then He will also say to those on the left hand, ‘Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels: for I was hungry and you gave Me no food; I was thirsty and you gave Me no drink; I was a stranger and you did not take Me in, naked and you did not clothe Me, sick and in prison and you did not visit Me.’ “Then they also will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to You?’ Then He will answer them, saying, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.’ And these will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”

The Second Coming of Jesus Christ is a very important event. This event underscores and emphasizes what God says in

Amos 3:7

“Surely the Sovereign LORD does nothing without revealing his plan to his servants the prophets.”

The return of Christ brings about what is referred to as the kingdom of God.It brings God’s absolute rule over His creation, including humankind. To accomplish that, Jesus ushers in two different judgments, two different resurrections, and two different eternities.
When Jesus returns, He will be ready for war

Revelation 19:11–16

And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.

The nations will be gathered to fight against Jerusalem

Zechariah 14:2

For I will gather all the nations to battle against Jerusalem; The city shall be taken, The houses rifled, And the women ravished. Half of the city shall go into captivity, But the remnant of the people shall not be cut off from the city.

Ngiyakubuthela iJerusalema bonke abezizwe ukuba balwe nalo; umuzi uyakuthathwa, izindlu ziphangwe, kuphoqwe abesifazane; inxenye yomuzi iyakumuka, iye ekuthunjweni, kepha abantu abaseleyo abayikunqunywa emzini.( IsiZulu Language )

in what we call the battle of Armageddon.

But that will be the day Jesus returns: “His feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, east of Jerusalem, and the Mount of Olives will be split in two from east to west, forming a great valley, with half of the mountain moving north and half moving south”

Zachariah 14:4

And in that day His feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, Which faces Jerusalem on the east. And the Mount of Olives shall be split in two, From east to west, Making a very large valley; Half of the mountain shall move toward the north And half of it toward the south.

Izinyawo zakhe ziyakuma ngalolo suku eNtabeni Yeminqumo ephambi kweJerusalema ngasempumalanga, iNtaba Yeminqumo iqhekezeke phakathi ngasempumalanga nangasentshonalanga, kube yisigodi esikhulu kakhulu; inxenye yentaba iyakuqhekezekela ngasenyakatho nenxenye ngaseningizimu.

It will be a unique day in the history of the world: “On that day there will be neither sunlight nor cold, frosty darkness . . . a day known only to the Lord—with no distinction between day and night. When evening comes, there will be light”

Zachariah 14:6–7

It shall come to pass in that day That there will be no light; The lights will diminish. It shall be one day Which is known to the Lord — Neither day nor night. But at evening time it shall happen That it will be light.

Kuyakuthi ngalolo suku kungabikho ukukhanya, amakhaza nesithwathwa kuphela. Kuyakuba lusuku ngokwalo olwaziwa nguJehova, kungabi yimini, kungabi ngubusuku, kepha kube ngukukhanya ngesikhathi sokuhlwa.

God’s enemies will be defeated, and the Antichrist and the false prophet will be “thrown alive into the fiery lake of burning sulfur”

Revelation 19:20

Then the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet who worked signs in his presence, by which he deceived those who received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image. These two were cast alive into the lake of fire burning with brimstone.

Isilo sase sibanjwa nomprofethi wamanga okanye naso owenza izibonakaliso phambi kwaso, abadukisa ngazo abamukela uphawu lwesilo nabakhuleka kumfanekiso waso; labo bobabili baphonswa besezwa echibini lomlilo elivutha isibabule.

Jesus will set up His kingdom, and “The Lord will be king over the whole earth”

Zechariah 14:9

And the Lord shall be King over all the earth. In that day it shall be— “The Lord  is one,” And His name one.

UJehova uyakuba yiNkosi emhlabeni wonke; ngalolo suku uJehova uyakuba munye, negama lakhe libe linye.

In establishing His kingdom on earth, Jesus will first set up a judgment for those who are still alive after the tribulation and who are on the earth at the time of the second coming. This is referred to as the “judgment of the sheep and the goats” or “judgment of the nations”

Matthew 25:31–46

“Kepha nxa iNdodana yomuntu iza ngenkazimulo yayo nezingelosi zonke ezingcwele kanye nayo, khona izakuhlala esihlalweni sayo senkazimulo; kuzakubuthelwa phambi kwayo izizwe zonke, ibahlukanise abanye kwabanye, njengomalusi ahlukanisa izimvu nezimbuzi, imise izimvu ngakwesokunene sayo kepha izimbuzi ngakwesokhohlo. “Khona iNkosi izakuthi kwabangakwesokunene sayo: ‘Zanini nina enibusisiwe nguBaba, nidle ifa lombuso eniwulungiselweyo selokhu kwasekelwa umhlaba. “Isiyakuphendula iNkosi, ithi kubo: ‘Ngiqinisile ngithi kini, njengokuba nikwenzile komunye walaba bafowethu abancane, nikwenzile kimi.’ “Khona iyakuthi kwabangakwesokhohlo: ‘Dedani kimi nina baqalekisiweyo, niye emlilweni ophakade olungiselwe uSathane nezingelosi zakhe. Ngokuba ngangilambile, aningiphanga ukudla; ngangomile, aningiphuzisanga; ngangingumfokazi, aningingenisanga; ngihamba ze aningembathisanga; ngigula, ngisetilongweni, aningihambanga.’ “Khona bayakuphendula nabo, bathi: ‘Nkosi, sakubona nini ulambile, noma womile, noma ungumfokazi, noma uhamba ze, noma ugula, noma usetilongweni, singakukhonzanga, na?’ “Khona iyakubaphendula ithi: ‘Ngiqinisile ngithi kini: Lokho eningakwenzanga komunye walaba abancinyane anikwenzanga nakimi.’ “Laba bayakumuka, baye ekujezisweni okuphakade, kodwa abalungileyo baye ekuphileni okuphakade.”

Those who survive this judgment will remain on earth and enjoy a time of peace and prosperity with Christ for 1,000 years (referred to as the millennium

 Revelation 20:4–6

And I saw thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was committed to them. Then I  saw  the souls of those who had been beheaded for their witness to Jesus and for the word of God, who had not worshiped the beast or his image, and had not received his mark on their foreheads or on their hands. And they lived and reigned with Christ for a thousand years. But the rest of the dead did not live again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection. Blessed and holy is he who has part in the first resurrection. Over such the second death has no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with Him a thousand years.

Ngase ngibona izihlalo zobukhosi; bahlala kuzo, banikwa ukwahlulela; ngabona nemiphefumulo yababenqunywe amakhanda ngenxa yokufakaza ngoJesu nangenxa yezwi likaNkulunkulu, nalabo abangakhulekanga kuso isilo nomfanekiso waso, nabangamukelanga uphawu lwesilo ebunzini labo nasesandleni sabo; baphila, babusa kanye noKristu iminyaka eyinkulungwane. Abafileyo ababesele kabaphila yaze yaphela iminyaka eyinkulungwane. Lokhu kungukuvuka kokuqala. Ubusisiwe, ungcwele onesabelo ekuvukeni kokuqala; kulabo ukufa kwesibili akunamandla, kepha bayakuba ngabapristi bakaNkulunkulu nabakaKristu, babuse kanye naye iminyaka eyinkulungwane.

Those who are found guilty in this judgment are cursed and consigned to “the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels”

Matthew 25:41

“Then He will also say to those on the left hand, ‘Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels:

Khona iyakuthi kwabangakwesokhohlo: ‘Dedani kimi nina baqalekisiweyo, niye emlilweni ophakade olungiselwe uSathane nezingelosi zakhe.

Satan is bound and forbidden to act during the millennium

Revelation 20:1–3

Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, having the key to the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. He laid hold of the dragon, that serpent of old, who is the Devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years; and he cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal on him, so that he should deceive the nations no more till the thousand years were finished. But after these things he must be released for a little while.

Ngase ngibona ingelosi yehla ezulwini, iphethe isihluthulelo sakwalasha neketanga elikhulu ngesandla sayo. Yambamba udrako*, inyoka endala, onguMhlebi noSathane, yambopha iminyaka eyinkulungwane, yamphonsa-ke kwalasha, yamvalela phakathi, yamqinisa ngophawu ngaphezu kwakhe, ukuze angabe esadukisa izizwe, ize iphele iminyaka eyinkulungwane; emva kwalokho kumelwe ukuba athukululwe isikhashana.

During this time there will also be a resurrection of all believers in God

These resurrected believers will join believers who are alive at the time of Christ’s coming and those Christ brings with Him from heaven, and all will live with Jesus during His 1,000-year earthly reign.

At the end of the millennium, Satan will be released, and one final battle will occur, which will rapidly be won by Christ

Revelation 20:7–9

Now when the thousand years have expired, Satan will be released from his prison and will go out to deceive the nations which are in the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle, whose number is as the sand of the sea. They went up on the breadth of the earth and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city. And fire came down from God out of heaven and devoured them.

Nanxa isiphelile iminyaka eyinkulungwane, uSathane uyakukhululwa etilongweni lakhe, aphumele ukudukisa izizwe ezisemagumbini omane omhlaba, oGogi noMagogi, azibuthele ekulweni ezimumo wazo ungangesihlabathi solwandle. Zase zikhuphukela ngaphezu kobubanzi bomhlaba, zakaka ikamu* labangcwele nomuzi othandiweyo; kwehla umlilo uvela ezulwini, wazidla waziqeda;

Satan is then permanently consigned to the lake of fire. At this point the second resurrection will occur, and another judgment. Unbelievers will be resurrected and judged at what is referred to as the great white throne judgment; based on their works, they will be assigned to the lake of fire

Revelation 20:11–15

Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away. And there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the  Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books. The sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them. And they were judged, each one according to his works. Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.

Ngase ngibona isihlalo sobukhosi esikhulu esimhlophe nohlezi kuso, obuso bakhe babalekelwa yizulu nomhlaba, akutholelwanga indawo. Ngabona abafileyo, abakhulu nabancane, bemi phambi kwesihlalo sobukhosi; izincwadi zavulwa; nenye incwadi yavulwa, ngeyokuphila; nabafileyo bahlulelwa ngalokho okulotshiwe ezincwadini njengokwemisebenzi yabo. Nolwandle lwakhipha abafileyo ababekulo, nokufa neHayidese* kwakhipha abafileyo ababekukho, bahlulelwa yilowo nalowo njengokwemisebenzi yakhe. Ukufa neHayidese* kwaphonswa echibini lomlilo. Lokhu kungukufa kwesibili, ichibi lomlilo. Uma ekhona ongafunyaniswanga elotshiwe encwadini yokuphila, waphonswa echibini lomlilo.

So, the return of Jesus will usher in two different eternities—one with God and one without Him. This truth is captured in two verses in the book of Malachi:

Malachi 4:1-2

“Surely the day is coming; it will burn like a furnace. All the arrogant and every evildoer will be stubble, and the day that is coming will set them on fire. . . . Not a root or a branch will be left to them. But for you who revere my name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its rays. And you will go out and frolic like well-fed calves”

“Ngokuba bheka, luyeza usuku, luvutha njengeziko; bonke abaziqhenyayo nabo bonke abenza okubi bayakuba ngamabibi; luyakubashisa lolo suku oluzayo,” usho uJehova Sebawoti, “lungabashiyeli mpande nagatsha. Kepha kinina enilesabayo igama lami kuyakuphuma ilanga lokulunga, linokuphilisa emaphikweni alo; niyakuphuma, nitshekule njengamathole esibaya.

What happens when Jesus returns? Evil is defeated, the earth is restored, and God wins. Your response to Jesus’ return depends on your relationship with Him. It will either be, as John MacArthur calls it, “the greatest calamity in all of human history” or the fulfillment of the Blessed Hope . Faith in Christ makes the difference.

Luke18:8

“But when the Son of Man returns, how many will he find on the earth who have faith?”

Ngithi kini: Uzakubezwela masinyane. Nokho nxa ifika iNdodana yomuntu, imbala iyakufumana ukukholwa emhlabeni na?”

 2) The second coming occurs after the great and terrible tribulation

Revelation chapters 6–19

The rapture occurs before the tribulation

1 Thessalonians 5:9

For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,

Revelation 3:10

Because you have kept My command to persevere, I also will keep you from the hour of trial which shall come upon the whole world, to test those who dwell on the earth.

3) The rapture is the removal of believers from the earth as an act of deliverance

1 Thessalonians 4:13-17

1 Thessalonians 5:9

For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,

The second coming includes the removal of unbelievers as an act of judgment

Matthew 24:36-44

“But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only. But as the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. For as in the days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and did not know until the flood came and took them all away, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. Then two men will be in the field: one will be taken and the other left. Two women will be grinding at the mill: one will be taken and the other left. Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming. But know this, that if the master of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into. Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.

4) The rapture will be secret and instant

The second coming will be visible to all

Revelation 1:7

Behold, He is coming with clouds, and every eye will see Him, even they who pierced Him. And all the tribes of the earth will mourn because of Him. Even so, Amen.

Matthew 24:29-30

“Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.

5) The second coming of Christ will not occur until after certain other end-times events take place

2 Thessalonians 2:4

who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.

Matthew 24:15-30

“Therefore when you see the ‘abomination of desolation,’ spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place” (whoever reads, let him understand), “then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. Let him who is on the housetop not go down to take anything out of his house. And let him who is in the field not go back to get his clothes. But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days! And pray that your flight may not be in winter or on the Sabbath. For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall be. And unless those days were shortened, no flesh would be saved; but for the elect’s sake those days will be shortened. “Then if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Christ!’ or ‘There!’ do not believe it. For false christs and false prophets will rise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. See, I have told you beforehand. “Therefore if they say to you, ‘Look, He is in the desert!’ do not go out; or ‘Look, He is in the inner rooms!’ do not believe it. For as the lightning comes from the east and flashes to the west, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. For wherever the carcass is, there the eagles will be gathered together.

Revelation chapters 6–18

The rapture is imminent; it could take place at any moment

Titus 2:13

looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ,

 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18

The rapture and second coming are similar but separate events. Both involve Jesus returning. Both are end-times events. However, it is crucially important to recognize the differences. In summary, the rapture is the return of Christ in the clouds to remove all believers from the earth before the time of God’s wrath. The second coming is the return of Christ to the earth to bring the tribulation to an end and to defeat the Antichrist and his evil world empire.

John wrote, “All who have this hope in Him purify themselves, just as Jesus Christ is pure”

1 John 3:3

And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.

The believer anticipating Christ’s blessed return will seek to live, in the power of the indwelling Holy Spirit, a life of purity. We will all stand before the Lord and give an account of how we lived for Him on earth

2 Corinthians 5:10

For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.

Jesus’ imminent return should motivate the believer to live godly in an ungodly world. The word looking in Titus 2:13 is the key for that to happen. To be “looking” means that we live each day in continual anticipation and expectancy, with the conviction that Jesus could come at any time. That hope becomes a transforming reality in this life, resulting in God being glorified through us

1 Corinthians 10:31

Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.

The blessed hope brings us joy and cheers us through the trials of this world. It should also cause us to stop and evaluate our thinking, words, and actions

Isaiah 25:9

And it will be said in that day: “Behold, this is our God; We have waited for Him, and He will save us. This is the Lord ; We have waited for Him; We will be glad and rejoice in His salvation.”

The Second Coming will be an actual event everyone will experience. No one will be able to miss His coming Him  with the clouds, and every eye will see Him, even those who pierced Him”

Revelation 1:7-8

Behold, He is coming with clouds, and every eye will see Him, even they who pierced Him. And all the tribes of the earth will mourn because of Him. Even so, Amen. “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End,” says the Lord, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.”

Matthew describes the Second Coming of Jesus Christ as similar to how “lighting comes from the east and flashes as far as the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man”

Matthew 24:27

For as the lightning comes from the east and flashes to the west, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.

Jesus Christ will  physically do what He promised.  He  physically ascended back to heaven after His earthly ministry. He will again physically descend  and come back on earth with His glorified body.

We will hear the sound of the trumpet.

1 Corinthians 15:52

in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

Romans 14:11

For it is written: “ As I live, says the Lord , Every knee shall bow to Me, And every tongue shall confess to God.”
